| San Diego Padres PETCO Park On April 8, 2004 at a cost of $449 million Petco Park finally opened. It features offices, retail, hotels, and residential units that many hope will transform a derelict section of downtown into a popular year-round destination. Petco Park is not like the traditional parks such as Camden Yards or Coors Field, it searches out its own architectural personality. Using Italian sandstone, whiter girders and the park recalls the simple beauty of the early Spanish missions with a palm court, jacaranda trees, and water walls leading spectators into the Ballpark. Another distinctive feature is a 200-foot tall towers which provides such unique functions, ranging from supporting lights for the playing field to housing luxury suites and lounges. All of the seats are as close to the playing field as possible. They are also angled towards the pitcher's mound to ensure quality views from every seat, regardless of location. |
