| Toronto Blue Jays/SkyDome On June 5, 1989 the first retractable-roof stadium was built in the major leagues, for the Toronto Blue Jays. The skydome is the tallest ballpark (when the roof is closed, it could hold a 31-story building) in the majors and can be seen for most parts of Toronto. It takes 20 minutes to open or close the 339,343 square feet, 11,000 tons roof. When the roof is opened, 100% of the field and 91% of the seating area is exposed. The SkyDome also features the largest jumbotron scoreboard display in North America. It is 33-feet by 115-feet and has 67,200 light bulbs with a cost of $17,000,000. The Renaissance is a 348 room hotel is located in center field. 70 of those rooms have views overlooking the field.
